Multi-crane lift installs 140-metre pipe at the Port of Kolding

At the Port of Kolding, a 140-metre pipe weighing 86 tonnes was lifted into place in a multi-crane lift.

The operation was carried out using four mobile cranes and two truck-mounted cranes, which worked together to lift and control the pipe throughout the operation.

Planning before the lift

When several cranes work on the same load, careful planning and clear coordination are essential.

Before the lift, the task was reviewed with everyone involved to ensure that the working method, communication and roles were clearly defined. In multi-crane lifts, it is crucial that all operators work according to the same plan.

The lift

During the operation, the cranes worked in small, controlled movements to ensure that the load was distributed correctly between the machines.

The crane operators continuously reported back while the lift was adjusted step by step, keeping the load stable throughout the operation.

One person in charge

In multi-crane lifts, it is essential that one person leads the operation.

For this task, a supervisor was responsible for the coordination and gave all commands during the lift. Communication was kept short and precise so that all crane operators followed the same instructions.

Working together

Multi-crane lifts require not only the right equipment but also experienced operators.

At the Port of Kolding, the lift was completed safely through close coordination between the crane operators and the supervisor, with mobile cranes and truck-mounted cranes working together on the task.
