Strong collaboration raises footbridge at Kastrup Airport
BMS A/S, BMS Heavy Cranes and Torben Rafn, together with the other project participants, have completed a major lifting project in connection with the expansion of Copenhagen Airport Station. The task was to hoist a new footbridge from Terminal 3 into place over the train platforms.
The project included two bridge sections of 106 t and 111 t, each 42 m × 6 m. An 850 t heavy crawler crane with a 60 m boom and 250 t superlift ballast was responsible for the lifting, while a mobile crane assisted with rigging and ballast.
To create space and safety, two lanes of the Øresund Motorway were temporarily closed for a distance of 1.5 km, and the logistics involved almost 40 trucks. The project was carried out efficiently and safely thanks to the close cooperation between the three BMS companies and other stakeholders on the project.
This lift demonstrates the BMS Group's strength in:
- Teamwork and coordination under tight conditions
- Heavy lifting with safe equipment
- Effective planning and collaboration across multiple companies
The result is a new footbridge that improves the station for both passengers and freight, delivered through a strong partnership between the BMS companies and the rest of the project team.
